LGBTQ+ Affirming Treatment Program
We connect LGBTQ+ individuals with affirming, inclusive addiction treatment programs staffed by clinicians trained in gender identity and sexual orientation issues. A safe space where you can heal as your authentic self.
Understanding LGBTQ+ Recovery Needs
Members of the LGBTQ+ community face disproportionately high rates of substance use disorders, driven by a lifetime of navigating stigma, discrimination, harassment, and, in many cases, abuse or family rejection. The resulting lack of social support, internalized shame, and emotional isolation can make individuals particularly vulnerable to using substances as a coping mechanism.
Our LGBTQ+ program provides a genuinely affirming therapeutic environment staffed by clinicians with specific training in gender identity and sexual orientation issues. Treatment addresses the unique social, emotional, and psychological challenges our LGBTQ+ clients face -- including minority stress, coming-out trauma, relationship dynamics, and identity exploration -- within a community of peers who share similar lived experiences.

Challenges We Address
Our treatment goes beyond standard addiction care to address the root causes and contributing factors that are unique to the LGBTQ+ experience. We create space for exploring how identity, relationships, and societal pressures intersect with substance use.

Learn About Group TherapyWhy Minority Stress Fuels Addiction
The higher rates of substance use in the LGBTQ+ community do not come from being LGBTQ+. They come from the chronic strain of living in a world that is not always safe or accepting. Researchers call this minority stress, and naming it is the first step to healing it.
Stress From the Outside
Discrimination, harassment, bias in jobs and housing, and rejection by family or community. Real events that take a real toll over time.
Stress From Within
Internalized shame, the constant expectation of rejection, and the exhausting mental load of hiding or bracing for judgment.
Self-Medication
When stress never lets up, alcohol and drugs can feel like the only relief. For years, much of LGBTQ+ social life was also centered on bars and clubs, making substances easy to reach for.
Compounded Pressures
Bisexual, transgender, and nonbinary people often carry extra, overlapping stressors, including erasure and a lack of safe, understanding spaces.
Because this strain so often shows up alongside depression, anxiety, and trauma, the programs we match you with treat them together through integrated dual diagnosis and mental health care, never as separate problems.
What Affirming Care Actually Looks Like
Affirming is not a sticker on the door, it is a practice you feel from your first phone call. Here is what it means day to day in the programs we connect you with.
Your Name and Pronouns, Every Time
Staff use your correct name and pronouns as a standard, not a favor. You should never have to correct the people caring for you.
Intake That Fits Your Life
Inclusive forms that make room for your gender, your relationships, and your chosen family, with no assumptions baked in.
A Space That Signals Safety
Clear nondiscrimination policies and identity-safe sober living options, so you can focus on recovery instead of your guard.
Your Identity Is Never the Problem
Clinicians never treat who you are as something to fix, and never ask you to justify or explain your identity to receive care.
Staff Trained for Your Reality
Providers receive real training on the specific social and psychological realities LGBTQ+ people, including trans and bi+ clients, actually face.
